These awesome videos are from another teacher, Mr. Corwin. He will explain what kind of geography people need to settle in an area (video on left), and how the Sumerian's lived in the world's first civilization (video on right).
These maps show what we call "The Middle East" (present day Iraq, Syria, Iran, etc.). Notice how people created cities in between deserts and mountains. The rivers created fertile farm land that was much better suited for civilization.
To the left you will see a picture of what the city of Ur used to look like. What do you notice about this city? How does it look similar and different to cities today? Below you see 2 pictures of ziggurats, or places to worship the ancient Mesopotamian gods. Notice how the photo to the right has been damaged over the years; it is missing the shrine at the top. This is an example of an artifact left by people of the past. |
